I will discuss as a Deaf person traveling to Laos to do sign language documentation: How did I find those Deaf people and the Deaf community in Laos and what was it like to work with Deaf people there? Every country has a Deaf association and/or Deaf clubs that I will contact first, then they will lead me to the Deaf people that would be fitting for what I’m searching for. Every place and countries are different, however, in Laos, I connected with the Deaf people from the Deaf association and they led me to find older Deaf people to document their endangered language: the Original Laos SignLanguage and it was from “word of mouth”. There were some conflicts along the way which also will be explained. I also will discuss what tools I used and what I brought with me.
